ActiveD3 Highly Qualified Activity Visa
For highly qualified foreign professionals with a confirmed offer in specified priority industries and activities in Portugal.
ActiveD5 Higher Education Visa
For college or university students pursuing tertiary/postgraduate education (bachelor's, master's or PhD level) at a Portuguese higher education institution โ distinct from the general D4 study visa used for shorter or non-degree study.
ActiveD6 Family Reunification Visa
For close family members (spouse/partner, dependent children, and in some cases parents) of a Portuguese resident or citizen wishing to join them in Portugal.
ActiveD7 Retirement / Passive Income Visa
For financially independent individuals who can demonstrate stable passive income (pensions, rental income, dividends) of at least EUR 920/month (2026 figure), originating outside Portugal.
ActiveD8 Digital Nomad Visa
For remote workers and freelancers earning at least EUR 3,680/month (2026 figure, 4x Portugal's minimum wage) from clients or employers outside Portugal. No IELTS required. Grants 1-2 year residency with a path to permanent residence after 5 years.
ActiveD9 Golden Visa (Investment Fund Residency)
Active in 2026 โ but real estate no longer qualifies (removed October 2023). The main route today is a EUR 500,000 investment in an eligible Portuguese fund. Grants residency with a path to citizenship (residency period under review; may extend from 5 to 10 years).
Eligibility Information

- Earn at least EUR 3,680/month from remote work outside Portugal โ 4x the national minimum wage (Digital Nomad Visa, 2026 figure).
- Invest EUR 500,000 in an eligible Portuguese investment fund โ real estate no longer qualifies (Golden Visa).
- Pass due-diligence and source-of-funds checks (Golden Visa/Digital Nomad).
